At KJ’s Ice Barn, we are using the national Learn to Skate USA® skating curriculum and program.
Learn to Skate USA®
The mission of Learn to Skate USA® is "to provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating!" It is the only program endorsed by US Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and US Speed skating because it provides a solid foundation for all three ice sports by teaching the fundamental skating skills.
- Your online registration with us will include a Learn to Skate USA® membership (annual), which will allow you to track your skating record through your account and access helpful resources such as instructional videos. It also allows both you, the ice rink, and certified instructors to be covered by sports injury insurance and liability insurance.
- After registering, skaters will be assigned a class based on their age and skating experience. Adjustments may be made as needed per their instructor's observations.
- To access their skating record and see levels passed, these skaters can login to their Learn to Skate USA member portal at learntoskateusa.com using their skater ID number and password which they will have received in an email from memberservices@learntoskateusa.com.
CLASS DETAILS
These classes will teach essential skating skills such as forward and backwards skating, stopping, crossovers, inside and outside edges, etc. Classes will be taught once weekly in small groups, consisting of 6 total classes. Each class will consist of a 10 minute free warm-up/gathering period, 25 minutes of instruction, and 25 minutes of practice time. The ice will be divided with bumpers and will have practice ice on one side and classes on the other side. Skaters will trade places between the practice/class sides halfway through the session. You will also receive 6 public skate passes with your registration so that you can practice, they will expire at the end of the session.
We will continue to hold Learn to Skate sessions throughout the entire year (yes, even in the summer!) with about a 2 week break between each session. Registration for the following session with be available online through the link as soon as we have been able to secure ice time for it.
